Sea the Devastation, or The living (and Dying) Metaphor for Closer
Sometimes there are mistakes that change the landscape forever. The Salton Sea is what
happens when we try to tame things that ought not be tamed. Once billed as a resort, a
getaway, an oasis, the Salton Sea became a dead sea whose fish swim belly up on the desert
breeze. With the perfect cocktail of greed, hubris, and a general disregard for the
consequences, one can shape something beautiful … for a little while.
p.s. The Salton Sea is amazing. I recommend a visit. Start at Bombay Beach and go
adventuring.
